On September 25 & 26^th the Rutherford County Master Gardeners and University of Tennessee Extension will be hosting the Fall Lawn & Garden Show at the new Farmers Market building on John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro.

This popular event will feature demonstrations on “instant gardens”, making your own planters, fall lawn maintenance and much more. Featured speakers will be Bob Wilson, noted horticulturist who will be speaking on Ornamental Grasses and other underused plants in the garden. Beth Jacobs, manager of Mary’s Greenhouses in McMinnville will speak on what’s new in perennials and reliable annuals in this area. The University of Tennessee Lawn and Turf Field Day will also be part of Saturday’s schedule.

There will be over 20 vendors this year. Colorburst Nursery always brings beautiful perennials for fall color and planting. Valley Growers will bring garden accessories and mums. Many new vendors will be attending. Willoughby Worm Farms will have a supply of worm castings (black gold to gardeners). There will be several artisans with handmade planters, yard art, bird baths and fountains made from cast leaves. Lunch will be provided by the Siegel High School FFA as a fund raiser for their activities. During lunch hours, there will be live music by Travis and Julie Watson. The Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center will be bringing eagles, raccoons, owls and many other birds and animals that have been rescued and now act as ambassadors to the animal world to help up learn more about the natural world around us.

“The Master Gardeners have worked hard to make this years show the biggest and best we’ve ever had, the new Farmers Market facility has given us all kinds of opportunities to expand the scope of the program and still keep it a bargain with ticket costs at only $5.00 for both days” says Linda Goetz, president.
