Fall Heritage Festival

Fall Heritage Festival returns to Cowan, TN with three days of history, music, art and all around fun for the whole family. The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, September 18 with a beauty pageant, classic & antique car cruise-in, show car display, living history demonstrations with cannon fire, and free “get your feet wet” instrument lessons from bluegrass legend Tom Morgan.

The show car exhibition and living history demonstrations will continue throughout the weekend. The Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Grundy County Swiss Historical Society, the Franklin & Grundy County Historical Societies, and the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park are all participating in historical demonstrations and exhibitions.

Kids Zone will offer games, art & science activities, a sand pile, face painting, story time, and more.

Four stages are scattered throughout the festival, and will be filled with 59 music and dance performances throughout the weekend. Featured performers include Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Roy Harper, Randy Waller of the Country Gentlemen, Travis Bowlin, Nick Lutsko & his Puppet Ensemble, Jackwagon, the Reall Deal, Flashback and Broad Mountain.

The Juried Arts & Crafts Marketplace will showcase paintings, photographs, jewelry, pottery and more from the talented artists and artisans of the region. The Heritage Mall will be filled with dozens of vendors offering everything from glass wind chimes to antiques to tupperware.

And no festival would be complete without food! Over two dozen food vendors will offer tasty fare including funnel cakes, hot dogs, roasted corn, popcorn, shaved ice, homemade ice cream and other favorites.

And speaking of food, there will be a Cornbread Contest on Sunday, so brush off your recipes and get ready to compete!

The festival is organized and hosted by the Cowan Railroad Museum in the heart of Cowan in the museum’s lovely central park. The event and event parking are free. The Fall Heritage Festival will be open September 18 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., September 19 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and September 20 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Cowan is located about an hour from Chattanooga and about 90 minutes from Nashville on Highway 41A. From I-24 E, take Exit 134 and follow 41A to the left for about 12 miles. From I-24 W, take exit 127 and follow Highway 64 to Winchester then follow 41A to the left for about 6 miles.
